Macarons or Macaroons

Just about everywhere we go, we are asked the same question. “Is it pronounced macaRON or macaROON?” So, we would like to take a moment to explain this.
First, we’d like to say that we really don’t care what you call them, as long as you buy them from us 🙂

Now, the simple answer to this question is that macarons and macaroons are not the same thing. Macaroons are chewy coconut cake cookies that originated in the United States.

Macarons (like the ones we make) started out in Italy, and really came into their own when the French discovered them. In Paris, these dainty meringue based cookie shells were filled with buttercreams and ganaches that are sometimes complimented by fresh fruits and jellies in the center.

Obviously we are a bit partial to one of these, but that’s for another blog post.
So, the answer to whether it’s macaron or macaroon, the answer is neither. It’s Macarooz!
